European-Asian Study Tour
Between November 26th and 27th, 2007 Poznan School of Banking hosted a group of MBA students from Berlin School of Economics. Their visit was part of their MBA study program.
There were 25 participants coming from diverse countries and cultures. The nationalities were as diverse as Chinese, Indian, Bangladesh, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Italian, Greek, German, Thai, and American.
This study tour comprised company visits to such companies as Kompania Piwowarska (brewing company), Nivea Polska S.A. (cosmetics company) and MAN-STAR Trucks Sp. z o.o. (bus producer)
The students also attended two lectures given by Poznan School of Banking lecturers. Prof. Maciej Żukowski in his lecture "Economic and Social Situation in Poland 2007" discussed problems and challenges that Poland has faced over the last few years. Dr Renata Krzykała-Schaefer in her lecture "Doing Business in Eastern New EU Member Countries - Intercultural Management Perspective" focused on cultural differences and their impact on management.
Apart from company visits and lectures the MBA students had a chance to meet Poznan Deputy Mayor Tomasz Kayser who delivered a speech on business opportunities in Poznan and the local area.
In September 2005 Summer Entrepreneurship School entitled "Cross-cultural management in the Enlarged European Union" was held at Poznan School of Banking. It was a ten-day course addressed to Polish students and students from Partner Institutions of the School. Fifteen students from Poland and fifteen foreign students from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany took part in the project.
During their ten-day stay in Poznan and Cracow the participants had the chance to gain and broaden their knowledge and develop skills of international management.
The program of the Summer School comprised lectures, workshops and study visits to companies functioning on the international markets.
It included the following lecture and workshop topics :
- "Expansion of European Union - year 2004"
- "Job markets and migrations in the enlarged European Union"
- "Cross-cultural management in the enlarged European Union"
- "Cross-cultural management - Poland in comparison to other countries"
- "National styles of management and motivation of employees"
During each study visit to a company the students met foreign managers who talked about cross-cultural management issues from his/her own perspectives. The final task for the Summer School participants was a project, drawn up in multinational 5-member teams. It involved analyzing the impact of Poland's accession to the EU on the functioning of a particular Polish company and reaching final conclusions for improving the management process in the enterprise. On the basis of the projects the participants gained a credit for the course as a 30-hour academic course (according to the European Credit Transfer System).
The Summer Entrepreneurship School was also an opportunity to make friends, overcome stereotypes and get a little familiar with the Polish language and culture. Apart from visiting Poznań and Cracow where the students were provided with the opportunity to learn something about Polish history, they could spend their free time at Poznań Old Market Square, relaxing and experiencing the atmosphere of pubs, cafes, restaurants and art galleries.
Similar undertakings are planned to be held in the near future.
